CDSE is conducted by the UPSC twice a year. University graduates or those in final year of graduation are eligible to appear in the examination. Candidates qualifying in written examination have to undergo SSB interview and medical tests. Candidates whose names appear in the merit list undergo basic military training of 18 months at Indian Military Academy/ Air Force Academy/ Naval Academy for Permanent Commission and 11 months at Officers Training Academy (OTA) to become Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs). SSCOs can serve for a duration of 10 years extendable to 14 years. However, they can opt for permanent commission after completion of 10 years or seek release after completion of five years of service, which is considered on case to case basis.

Conditions and Eligibility

NATIONALITY

A Candidate Must Be Unmarried and Must Either Be

  • a Citizen of India
  • a subject of Bhutan,
  • a subject of Nepal, or

AGE LIMITS, SEX AND MARITAL STATUS

ACADEMY AGE
INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY(IMA) 19 to 24 years unmarried male candidates.
INDIAN NAVAL ACADEMY(INA) 19 to 24 years unmarried male candidates.
AIR FORCE ACADEMY(AFA) 20 to 24 years unmarried male candidates.
OFFICERS TRAINING ACADEMY(OTA-MEN) 19 to 25 years (SSC Course for men) unmarried male candidates.
OFFICERS TRAINING ACADEMY(OTA-WOMEN) 19 to 25 years (SSC Women Non-Technical Course) unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried are eligible.

Every candidate for the Air Force and Naval Aviation is given Pilot Aptitude Test only once. The Grade secured by him at the first test (CPSS and/orPABT) will therefore hold good for every subsequent interview at the Air Force Selection Board. Those who have failed Indian Navy Selection Board/Computer Pilot Selection System (CPSS) and/or Pilot Aptitude Battery Test earlier and those who habitually wear spectacles are not eligible for Air Force.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admit Card three weeks before the commencement of the examination. The e-Admit Card will be made available on the UPSC website (www.upsc.gov.in) for downloading by candidates. No e-Admit Card will be sent by post. All the applicants are required to provide valid & active e-mail id. while filling up online application form as the Commission may use electronic mode for contacting them.

Sectional cut off- It is mandatory to secure 20% marks in each paper.

NOTE-

  • The papers in all the subjects will consist of objective type questions only.
  • The question papers (Test Booklets) of General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics will be set bilingually in Hindi as well as English.
  • The Commission have discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects of the examination.

The candidates are not permitted to use calculator for answering objective type papers (Test Booklets). They should not therefore, bring the same inside the Examination

RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. Fee will be paid maximum in two instalments. Atleast 70% fee to be paid at the time of admission and balance 30% within 1 to 2 months from start of the course.
  2. Fee once paid will not be refunded or adjusted under any circumstance.
  3. Filling in of exam application forms and their submission to the exam conducting authority will be the responsibility of student himself.
  4. Student will be responsible for his physical, medical and educational eligibility for a particular course before taking admission. No fee in full or part will be refunded once the student has taken admission in the academy.
  5. Change in address and contact No if any to be notified to the office immediately on occurrence.
  6. Student enrolled with DDA will provide his entrance examination roll number to office immediately on receipt of his admit card from the exam conducting authority.
  7. DDA reserves its right to make any alteration in its program/fees without any prior notice to anybody.
  8. Students will follow all rules, regulations and instructions of the institute and will stay within its discipline parameters.
  9. Student found involved in any indiscipline or misconduct will be expelled from the academy without any notice or refund of fee.
  10. DDA guides, coaches and trains the students for defence forces’ entries but does not promise or guarantee the jobs.
