Maj Gen Kuldip Sindhu was born into a military family at HISSAR (Haryana), on 02 Feb 1948. After initial schooling at Sacred Heart Convent, Dalhousie, the General moved to St George’s College, Mussoorie, from where he graduated in 1962 after doing his Senior Cambridge. Post schooling, he opted for a military career to follow in his father’s footsteps, and joined the National Defence Academy, Kharakvasla (Pune) in July 1963. He later completed basic military training from Indian Military Academy, Dehradun in June 1967 and was granted the Presidents Permanent Regular Commission into The Poona Horse – a cavalry regiment of considerable military reputation.
During his 39 years long distinguished military career, General has attended a variety of military courses, obtaining distinction in four. In 1978 he attended the prestigious Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, obtaining a Distinction in his MSc (Defence Studies) degree. In his early career he also attended specialist courses dealing with computerization, Selection of Officers into the Defence Forces, and other mandatory military courses. He has also attended all the important Senior Command & Higher Command courses at the Army War College, MHOW.
The General has held numerous command and staff appointments during his long & illustrious career, and served in many parts of the country. Notable among these were command of an Armoured Regiment, three staff tenures at Army Headquarters and the Ministry of Defence, New Delhi, command of an Infantry Brigade on the Line of Control (dealing with cross border infiltration and anti-militancy operations), and three plus years as Defence Attaché, Embassy of India, Riyadh - with concurrent accreditation to Kuwait and Yemen. The General is widely regarded as an expert on Middle East affairs, and has considerable knowledge of Islam and Islamic practices.
His higher command appointments have been Instructor at the Army War College, MHOW, Commandant of a top secret defence unit dealing with acquisition of military intelligence through satellites, for which he was awarded a Vishist Seva Medal. On promotion to the rank of Maj Gen in 2001, he was given command of a RAPID Infantry Division, and was actively involved in OP PARAKRAM.
Later, because of his outstanding administrative capabilities, vision, and “out of box” thinking, he was personally selected by Chief of Army Staff to be the first Managing Director ECHS and set up its infrastructure in a record time. His last appointment before retirement was with the Ministry of Defence, as Director General Resettlement, responsible for training & rehabilitating into civil life, approx 25 lakh ex-soldiers & 4 lakh widows (including war widows).
After his retirement the General started his second career with IBM Daksh and worked for four years with IBM, rising to level of Vice President RESO India-South Asia region, dealing with India, Sri Lanka & the Philippines. He is widely travelled, having visited around 26 countries officially, and for tourism. He currently spends his time in reading and authoring articles of strategic & military interest.
Col Manvijay Gautam is an alumni of Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He did well in the academy and was awarded medals for standing 1st in tactics and 2nd in academics. He passed out from IMA in super block and was commissioned in 1986 into 15 Armoured Regiment, one of the finest regiments of the armoured corps.
During his 25 years long distinguished military career, he has attended seven professional military leadership and technical courses including technical officer course (psychologist) from DIPR and was awarded the best student trophy in one of them. He has held various command and staff appointments during his illustrious career. During his staff appointment in valley he was awarded General Officer Commanding-in-Chief’s Commendation Card for distinguished service in war like situation and was cited for Sena Medal for distinguished operational service during Kargil war.
Besides military career courses he has done corporate career courses like PGCBM, Independent Director Course and MDP in Strategic Mind-set from premier management institute MDI, Gurgaon. After premature retirement from Army in 2008 he started his second career with an Oil & Gas MNC as Manager HR & Admin of a nation fame project handling work force of approx. 14,000. He worked with the organization for eight years rising to the level of Head of Department of Administration taking care of administrative and logistic needs of corporate HQ and all its multiple sites and fields in India and abroad. During his eight years career with corporate he was awarded many certificates of appreciation by the senior management in recognition to his excellent performance and notable contribution towards achievement of organizational goals.
Drawing from his rich experiences in the army and corporate, he has developed a passion in training and mentoring the aspirants who are keen to serve the nation by joining the defence forces and para military forces as an officer or below officer’s rank.
He as part of a team of three army officers having established “Rashtriya Defence Academy” in Sundar Nagar (Himachal Pradesh) has set up Dhwajj Defence Academy in Najafgarh to impart training (written, physical and interview) to all aspirants who wish to join the Belt Forces as Officers or as Soldiers.
Mrs Kumud Gautam is a Graduate in Bio Science from Govt Degree College, Kathua and Post Graduate in English from University of Jammu. Having done her BSc, (Bio Science), MA (English) and B.Ed. she has taught in Army Schools Nabha, Srinagar and Suratgarh. Her favourite subjects for teaching been General Science, Biology and English. She is widely experienced in teaching, counselling and administrative skills. She takes all General Science and Biology classes for soldier entry and is held in very high esteem by the students. She is very popular with the students and is the main guiding force behind the successful establishment of the Academy.
